Some shows disappear and you move on.
Into the Badlands wasn't one of those shows for me.
I genuinely loved that series.
And what makes its cancellation even more painful is that I felt like the story still had so much left to give.
The Show Had Something Different
One of the things I loved about Into the Badlands was the fighting.
But it wasn't simply people punching each other.
The movement was fast.
The choreography was crazy.
The characters felt dangerous.
And the world itself was completely different from the usual American series I was watching.
It felt like the show had its own identity.
Fact note: Into the Badlands aired on AMC from November 15, 2015 to May 6, 2019 — three seasons, 32 episodes. It starred Daniel Wu as Sunny and was loosely inspired by the Chinese classic Journey to the West.
The Main Character Still Had More to Give
The most frustrating part for me was knowing that the main character had not even shown everything he could do.
He was already competing with people who had extraordinary abilities while relying heavily on his physical fighting skills.
So I kept thinking:
"What happens when he finally unlocks everything?"
That question made the cancellation hurt even more.
Why Would They Cancel Something This Good?
This is one of those cancellations that I still don't understand.
A show can be good and still get cancelled.
Ratings, production costs, audience size and business decisions can all affect whether a series continues.
But as a viewer?
I don't care about the spreadsheet.
I just wanted another season.
😂
I wanted to see where the story was going.
I wanted to see the characters develop.
I wanted to see what the main character would eventually become.
Fact note: AMC cancelled the series in 2019 after three seasons. The producers have spoken about wanting a movie or graphic novel continuation, but nothing has been confirmed.
Into the Badlands Deserved More Time
Maybe the show wasn't perfect.
I'm not claiming it was.
But it had something that made me want to keep watching.
And that's becoming increasingly rare.
There are hundreds of shows you can start and forget.
Into the Badlands wasn't one of them for me.
It is still one of those series where I think:
"What could they have done if they had been given more seasons?"
And honestly?
I still want to know.
